St Johns Football Club History
St Johns football club was formed by John Conroy in 1996 where the team was made up of friends we entered the Nightowls AstroTurf league the matches were held in Scanlon park in our first season we finished second from the end 1996-97. In our second season we got knock out of the cup in the first round and finished bottom of the league 1997-98. Our third season was a big improvement which saw St Johns bring in a lot of new faces we reached the semi final of the cup and finished 7th in league 1998-99. In our 4th season we finished 4th in the league and got invited in to the champion’s cup in Cork as the league winners that season was unable to make it down Nore Bar. We gladly accepted and finished 3rd in the tournament 1999-2000 we left the Nightowls league that season and just played in summer tournaments as in the bishop birch street league were we were defeated in the shield final by Africa utd 3-2 In 2001 we were asked to join the newly formed Kilkenny Floodlit league formed by Nore bar manager Eamon Cleere after most of the clubs in the nightowls league had join us in the floodlit we finished 4th in our first season in the floodlit league in 2001-2002. in our second season we finished 7th in the league as the league was getting stronger with even more team coming over form the nightowls we played in the Kilkenny floodlit league for 10 years and it was until we found it harder to find players as the years went by so in 2011 we left the floodlit league and got accepted into the Kilkenny & district league in our first season saw us returning to Scanlon park to rent the grass pitch to in sure our entry into the K&DL in our first season it was an eye opener with us just getting one point in our hole league campaign 2011-2012. In our second season saw the club swap pitches with our friends and rivals Orchard Rovers formed by former johns Assistant-Manager Jerry Donavon also that season we entered a B team into the league which saw our A team promoted to division 2 which turned out to be a mistake as we had to pulled the plug on our be team after just 6 game and our A team got relegated back to division 3 on just 4 point we had only won one game in two season 2012-2013 in our 3rd season saw the club getting our new home ground from the Kilkenny council Garringreen keeping the club in St Johns Parish we finished 8th the 3rd division and reached the last 16 of the McCalmount cup after beating the 3rd division champions Thomastown C 2-0 in garringreen and in the last 16 we were knocked out by Thomastown the premier side were just to good on the day beating us 7-1 McCalmount cup. In the divisional cup we reached the final were we lost 2-0 against our derby Newpark C 2013-2014. the only players to play in all 3 leagues are Aron Homan and John Conroy And this season will see the club entering the leinster junior shield for the first time 2014-2015 season saw the club breaking the points record currently on 21 points also saw the club enter he lenister junior shield but knocked out by Syc ST Columbans of Dublin in the first round and getting through to the second round of the maher shield after beating St annes 2-1 but were knocked out in the second round by Evergreen B 5-2 we also decided to enter another into the Kilkenny floodlit league 3rd division
